In my last article I brought as an example of a “cheap website hosting” service my own company, BRap Hosting. And I wrote that BRap Hosting is a head and shoulders above many other “cheap website hosting” sevices in that the main hosting package is unlimited in terms of disk space and bandwidth. In the knowledgebase in the BRap Hosting back office I wrote an article that unlimited hosting in a shared hosting environment can never be taken absolutely literally, because the resouces are shared by others, and therefore the resource usage of the individual must be consistent and appropriate for a shared hosting environment. However it is still unlimited in the sense that you don’t have to keep track of how much disk space and bandwidth you use, and you will never be “flagged” for over use, unless of course you inappropriately hog the resources, which can happen both with little amounts of diskspace and bandwidth as well as with big amounts.

There is a second hosting package at BRap Hosting, which although it is not unlimited, it is still special. And that is our multimedia package. In the spirit of what I wrote above in the quoted article, usually multimedia streaming is not a permitted activity on a shared hosting platform. That is because it uses up a lot of CPU resources, and also requires some sophisticated software which on a shared server is generally not offered. The way that a person usually gets around this is by uploading his videos to You Tube and the like. However sometimes a person has a need to stream a video off of his own site. Normally you can’t do this on a cheap website hosting environment of a shared server. Even so, we have such a service at the same low price of $35/year.
